WIN: Incredible Pirate Tales

About: From the sailors defending their ships against attack, to the legendary pirates themselves, everyone has an astonishing tale to tell. There are even accounts of ghost pirates seeking revenge on their enemies and reclaiming stolen treasure.

This bloody band of buccaneers sailed together, caroused together, fought together, and, like most outlaws, died together. From the top of the hawk’s nest to the depths of the galleys, this rousing collection of stories vividly captures the pirates’ most savage and  glorious existence.
(Back cover text, via Amazon)

By the way, you’ll meet more pirates in Random Magic, as heroine Winnie Flapjack goes to war — a most quiet war, with a quick and deadly finish — with a merciless pirate king.

WIN: Sail Away

About: Something happens - often magical, sometimes life-threatening, rarely mundane - when men and women put a plank between themselves and the water and set out on a voyage, whether for a day or a lifetime.

The sea's ever-changing beauty, vastness, unbridled wildness and unpredictability make it an incomparable setting for human drama, one that’s inspired generations of writers to capture what a voyage upon it is like.

Comprised of short stories, novel excerpts and narrative nonfiction, Sail Away includes twenty-one unforgettable pieces, including short stories by Jason Brown, Roald Dahl, John Rolfe Gardiner, Mary Lavin, and W.S. Merwin; narrative nonfiction by Bryan Burrough, Pete Goss, and Paul Theroux; and excerpts from such classics as Jules Verne's Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea and Thor Heyerdahl's Kon-Tiki.

"We've heard it said," editors Lena Lencek and Gideon Bosker write in their introduction, "that, 'on a ship, there is a fate in every plank.'” Sail Away offers a variety of tales to thrill and entertain every water-loving adventurer. (Amazon, via Da Capo Press)

BONUS book for the winner of Incredible Pirate Tales.
(This book will be added as part of book package.)

WIN: The White Seahorse

About: Description: (Via an Amazon review, edited for length): Granuaile, a.k.a. Grace O’Malley, was a pirate queen who lived during the Elizabethan age. And if this is news to you, then that is not surprising. Written Irish history appears to have overlooked what must have been one of the country’s most colorful characters…

This is encapsulated in one scene where Granuaile has been imprisoned in a dungeon in Galway City for attacking a merchant ship and is facing the death penalty. She’s taken to the house of Sir Edward Fitton, where a party is underway. The Lord President has her informed (for Granuaile speaks no English) that he wishes her to dance for the amusement of the guests.

She agrees to dance the male part of a Galician jota if the smallest woman in the room partners her, and honor that falls upon Jane Smyth, the daughter of the chief apothecary of Dublin Castle.
The couple dance and Granuaile gradually maneuvers them both towards the nearest pane glass window.

Suddenly, she picks Jane up, hurls her smashing through the window, jumps through after her, rolls down the grass, is over the wall onto a waiting horse and is away. How on earth have Hollywood missed out on this? (Source: Amazon review)
